My name is Isaac Johnson, and I’m currently a student at the University of Wisconsin – Madison studying mechanical engineering. In my spare time I like to practice the skills I’ve learned (and continue to learn) on engineering related projects. I enjoy going through the entire process of ideation, prototyping, design, and fabrication, especially when metalworking is involved.
On top of the projects I’ve documented in my portfolio, my background includes four years on a high school FIRST Robotics Competition team where I was the CAD/CAM lead. Here I learned how to use a wide array of shop tools, as well as providing opportunities and purpose to self-teach myself how to use CAD software, Tool-path programming in CAM software, and operation of various CNC routers and 3D printers.
I’ve also got experience with welding (MIG, Stick, and Oxyfuel), brazing, and simple woodworking that has helped me in various projects.
Bullet Point Skills:
- CAD-based design with consideration for assembly, manufacturing
- Rapid prototyping and thoughtful iteration using 3D-Printers, CNC machining, and conventional methods
- Welding experience (GMAW, SMAW, OxyAcetylene)
- Use of Onshape, Autodesk Fusion, Solidworks for CAD, CAM, and simple Simulations
- Use of Excel for graphing data, calculations
